Office Update Instructions

These screenshots were all taken updating Office 2000 in Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed. Layman's PC recommends all critical/high priority updates be installed from Windows Update before running Office Update.  The process in the following instructions will be similar for other versions of Windows and Office. Office Update works for Microsoft Office 2000, XP, and 2003 and only works in Internet Explorer.

When you visit first Office Update, you'll be greeted by the following page.

Click the "Check for Updates" link and you will be presented with the following security warning.

Click 'Install' and the Office Update applet will download and install from Microsoft.  After the applet loads, it will download a list of available updates and compare this list with the files installed on your computer and list the updates that are not installed.  Critical updates will be selected for download by default.

Here you will select which updates you wish to install, and click the 'Agree and Start Installation'.

Certain updates must be installed before others and some updates must be installed by themselves. For this reason, you will need to repeat this process until all critical updates and service packs are downloaded.

Certain updates require files from the CD to be installed through the update site. If your CD is not immediately available, there are alternative instructions on their site to manually download and install updates.

Certain updates will require a reboot, do so when prompted.

If for any reason you have problems with this process please contact Layman's PC Sales and Service.
